The episode follows women’s struggle over time to consolidate their equal position in both public and private sector. A struggle that had to overcome the relentless “father principle”, the expressed hatred and the male fear for the overthrow of the gender order of things.
The documentary “SPLEDID CITY – Athens Urban Stories” highlights the unwritten story of the capital. Men and women, ordinary people and iconic personalities, restless artists and hard workers, young and not so young ones, authentic urban residents and internal emigrants, locals and refugees, share their stories, their various perspectives, their minor or major achievements and their special signs of communication in the common urban environment. By wandering along the major avenues and their side streets, in landmark buildings and “backyards”, in iconic hangouts and in obscure “holes”, but mainly through the narratives of the protagonists themselves, “SPLEDID CITY – Athens Urban Stories” hoards faces, images, voices, sounds, colours, tastes and melodies, reconstructing parts of the big picture of this impressive, old and modern, Athenian mosaic. With historians, critics, sociologists, architects, journalists and analysts as fellow travellers and with valuable archival material, “SPLEDID CITY – Athens Urban Stories” highlights certain dimensions of the metropolis that surrounds us which are often overlooked and contributes to the reinterpretation of the urban landscape as an element of memory and living reality.
